HMS Scraps

HMS Scraps

(Heavy Melting Scrap)is a recyclable steel scrap category consisting of heavy, thick iron and steel pieces, widely used in steelmaking and foundries as a raw material for producing new steel.

HMS (Heavy Melting Scrap) is a widely traded category of ferrous scrap metal that consists of obsolete steel and iron items such as beams, plates, pipes, rebar, machinery, and structural components. It is generally divided into two main grades — HMS 1 (without galvanized or blackened steel, thicker and heavier pieces) and HMS 2 (includes thinner gauge steel, galvanized, and blackened materials). HMS scrap is valued in the steel industry because it is a cost-effective and sustainable raw material for electric arc furnaces (EAF) and induction furnaces, where it is melted and recycled into new steel products. Its consistent quality, density, and availability make it a preferred choice for steelmakers worldwide, helping reduce reliance on iron ore and lowering environmental impact through recycling.
