Zirconium Alumina

Zirconium Alumina

Zirconium Alumina is a high-performance abrasive material with excellent toughness, strength, and durability. It is widely used for heavy-duty grinding, precision shaping, and high-pressure abrasive applications on metals and alloys.

Zirconium Alumina (ZA) is a fused alumina-zirconia abrasive produced by melting alumina and zirconia at high temperatures in an electric arc furnace, followed by quenching and precision crushing. The material features a dense microcrystalline structure, offering high hardness, superior toughness, and excellent wear resistance. This makes it ideal for demanding grinding operations and applications where long abrasive life and consistent cutting efficiency are required.

Variants Available:

ZA25 – Balanced toughness and hardness
Suitable for high-pressure grinding wheels and sandblasting. It efficiently grinds steel, cast iron, nickel alloys, titanium, aluminum, and tungsten alloys without causing surface burn.

ZA40 – Higher zirconia content, increased toughness and durability
Ideal for both coated and bonded abrasives such as belts, wheels, sandpaper, and abrasive cloth. Commonly used for grinding rail tracks, alloy steels, stainless steel, casting surfaces, and woodworking tools.

Key Features:

High grinding efficiency with reduced heat generation

Longer abrasive life compared to brown alumina & silicon carbide

Excellent toughness for heavy-duty industrial applications

Suitable for both dry and wet grinding conditions

Applications:

Resin and vitrified grinding wheels

Abrasive belts, flap discs, sandpaper, and abrasive cloth

Surface finishing of alloy steel, stainless steel, and cast metals

Rail track grinding and precision shaping operations

Sandblasting and pressure grinding processes
